Abstract
Kulturni i gospodarski razvoj grada Broda kroz 18. 19. i 20. stoljeće obilježen je brojnim značajnim promjenama koje su zaslužne za nastanak Broda kao grada kakav je danas. Naselja na ovom području postojala su još u prapovijesno doba. Izniman utjecaj na gospodarski i kulturni razvoj imala je izgradnja nove brodske tvrđave ,koja je uvelike promijenila dotadašnje stanje. Dugi niz godina vojna komponenta je, zapravo, karakterizirala Slavoniju, a od 18. stoljeća u njoj je bio zamjetan proces urbanog razvoja koji nije bio u nekoj izraženijoj vezi s vojskom. Tada su na području grada sustavno nicale nove palače, a grad je dobivao prometnice i polako postajao važnim središtem. Jednako tako, znameniti se Brođani javljaju već od vremena nastanka Broda, a gotovo su svakom brodskom selu i samom gradu dali veći ili manji doprinos i sveukupnoj hrvatskoj kulturi. Upravo su iz Broda potekli mnogi ugledni književnici, znanstvenici, umjetnici, političari i drugi javni djelatnici koji su ostavili vidljive tragove svoga rada i stvaralaštva, ostavivši pri tome neizbrisive tragove i omogućivši da se u svijetu čuje za Slavonski Brod.
Abstract (english)
The cultural and economic development of the city Brod through 18th, 19th and 20th century was marked by numerous, significant, changes that have contributed to the emergence of Brod as the city it is today. There were Resorts in this area in prehistoric times. An extraordinary impact on the economic and cultural development was the construction of a new fortress which introduced great changes. For many years, the military component is, in fact, characterized Slavonia, and by the 18th century it was evident the process of urban development that has not been in a more explicit connection with the army. That was the period when new palaces were sprouted, and the city is getting roads and slowly became an important center. Famous citizens of Brod occur since the creation of the city and almost every village and town gave greater or smaller contribution to overall Croatian culture. It was from Brod origin of many prominent writers, scientists, artists, politicians and other public figures who have left visible traces of their work and creativity, thereby leaving an indelible mark and enabling the world hears of Slavonski Brod.
