Abstract
The growing popularity of the Internet in everyday life rises questions about its influence on young children’s lives. This thesis studies popular YouTube vlogs whose target audience are children or families with children. It offers the overview of the vlog contents as well as the language of the vlogs that are popular amongst young learners. It is considered that vloggers use simple language and that it does not differ from the language that is used in everyday life (De Boeck, 2015). ... More Moreover, it provides a detailed analysis of the most common language structures and determines if they are commonly used amongst different vloggers. By focusing on the structures, relevant conclusions of vloggers’ following the rules of the Standard English language and their impact on the viewers are drawn. Taking into consideration the research results and available literature, it is discussed whether English native speaking vloggers can serve as models for informal language learning of Croatian young learners. As well as the possible influence on informal second language acquisition, the paper offers some possibilities of using vlogs in teaching English as a second language to young learners in the classroom environment. Zbog rastuće popularnosti korištenja interneta u svakidašnjem životu, postavlja se pitanje kakav utjecaj ostavlja na djecu. Ovaj se rad bavi popularnim YouTube vlogovima čiji je sadržaj namijenjen djeci ili općenito obiteljima s djecom. Ponuđen je pregled sadržaja tih vlogova, kao i analiza jezika koju vlogeri koriste. Smatra se da jezik korišten u vlogovima sadrži jednostavne jezične strukture te da se po tome ne razlikuje od uobičajenog jezika koji se koristi u svakidašnjem govoru.... More Nadalje, ovaj rad nudi detaljnu analizu najčešće korištenih gramatičkih struktura te po tome određuje jesu li zajedničke među promatranim vlogerima. Ističući tako jezične strukture, donosi se zaključak o upotrebi standardnog engleskog jezika te kako jezik kao takav utječe na gledatelje. Uzimajući u obzir rezultate istraživanja i dostupnu literaturu, rad nudi odgovor na pitanje mogu li izvorni govornici engleskog jezika služiti kao model za neformalno učenje engleskog jezika učenicima u Hrvatskoj. Osim utjecaja na neformalno učenje, rad se bavi i mogućnošću kojom se vlogovi mogu koristiti i u nastavi engleskog jezika u hrvatskim školama. Less
