Environmental education can be interpreted as an education for healthier and better life. We are aware of the fact that we have to change our lifestyles remarkably if we want to conserve our planet for future generations. The clear water issues are becoming louder. The water resources are limited and in order to avoid future water crisis, it is of extremely importance to be more rational and effective in its usage. The water resources should be managed integrally and the concept of sustainable development should be achieved. The aim of teaching environmental issues in preschool education is to involve actively children in the processes of experiencing, understanding and evaluating the environment and its factors, interactions and codependencies. Preschool educators have a key role in environmental education and they should develop children's awareness of their direct relation to environment. Preschool educators should encourage children's environmental sensibility. In this article the results on the water issue awareness are going to be presented. The research was conducted on 101 preschool educators in Croatia using specially designed questionnaire, which consists of 31 items in a Likert scale type. The aim of the research has been to question the preschool educators' knowledge of the importance of water safety and to find out which methods and facilites they use to encourage children's environmental sensibility and how often they do it. The results have shown that the majority of the examined preschool educators have a high degree of environmental sensibility and they consider that preschool education, in addition to home nurture, must encourage environmental sensibility in children.
