There are different definitions of picture books and often when defining picture books it is stated that it is the first book with which a child comes into contact during growing up. This paper analyzes the picture books of Silvija Šesto, who is a well-known and award-winning Croatian author who writes for children and adults. We can call her a contemporary writer in the full sense of the word because she deals with topics and issues that we are surrounded by every day. By choosing picture books, the greatest attention will be focused on current everyday and problematic topics that include personal personalities and behaviors such as: selfishness, disobedience, curiosity, diligence, on problems related to emotions, which include fear of the environment, loneliness, fear of a bad grades and also on current topics about healthy eating. From the selected corpus, we can see that Silvija Šesto tells us that during our life we encounter various problems and troubles, but that in the end everything always ends positively. The authour of the picture books warns us that we should be careful with children, help them when they need help and let them know that they are not the only ones with problems, dangers, troubles, bad days, but that we all have them.
