With the development of technology, people increasingly have to adapt to a new way of life. Technology and the Internet are very present in almost everyone's life, and a lot of learning is required for people to keep up. Accordingly, digital citizenship has seen great progress nowadays, although many people are not familiar with the concept and importance of digital citizenship and its elements. In order to change that, it is necessary to explain to people in detail all the challenges and innovations that digital citizenship offers every day. This paper provides an overview of the concept of digital citizenship and its elements, as well as the ways and ideas of implementing digital citizenship in classroom teaching, it also describes research that was conducted with a questionnaire in which students from the 1st to the 5th year of the Teacher's Study in Osijek participated. It was questioned how familiar future teachers are with digital citizenship and their opinions and attitudes were presented. The aim of this research is to determine how familiar future teachers are with the concept of digital citizenship, to gain an insight into their views on digital citizenship education in the lower grades of primary school, and to examine whether and to what extent they encountered the concept of digital citizenship in their education. The results of the research showed that students are not sufficiently familiar with digital citizenship and the elements of digital citizenship, and that they are not familiar with the best way to approach students and introduce them to the elements of digital citizenship. In order to change this, future teachers believe that in the future it would be good to take a course on digital citizenship as part of undergraduate or graduate education, which would prepare them in advance for the upcoming challenges.
