Abstract
This thesis focuses on the theory of transmedia storytelling on the example of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This research presents the theory of transmedia storytelling, its key elements, and its importance in the 21st century. Transmedia storytelling is a multifaceted concept that encompasses the creation of an imaginative narrative universe, characters, settings, and thematic elements. This phenomenon facilitates the dissemination of a unified story across several platforms and in a variety of formats. Transmedia storytelling has proven to be a highly effective strategy in the 21st century, compelling individuals to actively engage in communication across various domains. The Harry Potter series, being one of the most prominent franchises, serves as a noteworthy example of transmedia storytelling and its effective utilization of the Internet to actively involve and engage its audience. The Harry Potter franchise has successfully penetrated various industries and markets, encompassing products, video games, theme parks, and digital platforms, thereby appealing to a wide range of people. Through many different media, fans of the franchise are able to connect and feel as if they were an integral part of the story. This is why the Harry Potter franchise changed the way we consume stories, because of its ability to draw its audiences into the story. The aim of this research is to show the complexity and transmediality of various formats within the Wizarding World and to analyze its importance in the 21st century.
Abstract (croatian)
Ovaj istraživački rad usmjeren je na temu transmedijskog pripovijednja, teorije ovoga pojma i njegovu primjenu u Čarobnjačkom svijetu Harrya Pottera. U radu će detaljno biti objašnjena teorija transmedijskog pripovijedanja, ključni elementi i važnost te utjecaj transmedije u 21. stoljeću. Transmedijsko pripovijedanje višeznačan je pojam koji obuhvaća nastanak maštovitog svijeta, likova, okruženja i tematskih elemenata. Ovaj fenomen olakšava širenje priče na različite medijske platforme u raznim formatima. Transmedijsko pripovijedanje vrlo je učinkovita narativna strategija u 21. stoljeću koja omogućava svojim sudionicima da budu aktivni korisnici koristeći različite domene. Harry Potter serijal je jedna od najistaknutijih svjetskih franšiza, a služi kao primjer transmedijskog pripovijedanja i učinkovite upotrebe interneta za aktivno uključivanje i interakciju publike. Harry Potter franšiza uspješno je prodrla u razne industrije i tržišta, obuhvaćajući proizvode, videoigre, tematske parkove i digitalne platforme, čime je osvojila širok raspon publike. Ovaj fikcionalni prostor pruža svojoj publici priliku da se uključe u narativni svijet Harryja Pottera i postanu njegovim aktivnim dijelom. Kroz mnogo različitih medija, obožavatelji se mogu povezati i postati sastavnim dijelom priče. Harry Potter promijenio je način na koji konzumiramo priče zbog uključivanja publike u kreativno iskustvo stvaranja priče. Cilj ovog istraživanja jest pokazati složenst i transmedijalnost različitih formata unutar čarobnjačkog svijeta te analizirati njihovu važnost i utjecaj u 21. stoljeću.
