Picture books are the first books a child comes into contact with at an early age. Reading promotes various skills and abilities in children from an early age. A child’s linguistic development is divided into a pre-linguistic or pre-expressive and a linguistic or expressive period, and each period bears its characteristics. Picture books, both traditional and interactive or contemporary picture books, play an important role in the development of speech at an early age. The first meeting of children with picture books occurs within family when perents read picture books to their children before going to bed, and children carry out the second meeting with them in a kindergarten where their preschool teachers read to them. Educators in educational institutions for early and preschool education play a key role in encouraging the comprehensive development of children. They also play a key role in creating a quality atmosphere that includes various activities and an initial reading and writing center that should play an important role in the kindergarten’s living room. Educators with children use interactive picture books, which have proven positive for children’s development in general, but also for the development of speech and language. Interactive picture books today include picture books that have interactive components such as sound, animation, cutouts, flaps, music, and other things like that. Through interactive picture books, children can independently explore and enrich their vocabulary and improve their understanding of certain words. Multimedia picture books consisting of text, sound, animation, and other interactive competitors are increasingly current. Multimedia picture books have different goals that can help a child learn and acquire different abilities. This final work aims to highlight the role of interactive picture books among preschoolers and educators' role in using picture books in their work with children in general. Emphasis is placed on the speech and language development of preschool children who through a picture book develop spoken skills, acquire words and phonological awareness, and gain new experience and basics for further success in elementary school.
