Abstract
Tenis je popularna športska igra reketom i lopticom čiji je osnovni smisao prebaciti lopticu iz vlastitog polja reketom preko mreže u protivničko polje, a igre nalik tenisu igrale su se još u srednjovjekovnoj Francuskoj. Tenis kakav danas poznajemo potječe iz Velike Britanije, a zbog velikog interesa koji su za njega pokazivali francuski i engleski kraljevi, tenis se često naziva i bijelim sportom. U Velikoj su ga Britaniji prvo nazvali lawn tennis, što bi značilo „tenis na travnjaku”, a ubrzo je stekao popularnost, kako u Europi, tako i u cijelom svijetu. Danas je tenis popraćen od strane svih medija, a jednako tako i uživo od strane mnogih obožavatelja tenisa. Najposjećeniji i najprestižniji teniski turniri su četiri Grand Slam turnira, koje čine otvorena prvenstva Australije (Australian Open), Francuske (French Open ili Roland Garros), Velike Britanije (Wimbledon) i Sjedinjenih Američkih Država (US Open).
