Hygiene has an important role in preserving human health. From early age, children must be educated on the importance of correct and regular hygiene, as well as the consequences which may arise if they neglect their hygiene. They must also be encouraged to acquire hygiene habits as early as possible, and we as adults need to set a good example. School is the perfect place to learn about and acquire hygiene habits through play. The purpose of this thesis was to explore the level of hygiene awareness among young primary school students, their hygiene habits, whether they mind when someone has poor hygiene and if they are satisfied with their own hygiene habits. I have analysed the Eureka textbooks for the Nature and Society subject published by Školska knjiga. Upon the examination of the amount of content related to hygiene in the textbooks, the conclusion is that hygiene is poorly and insufficiently represented. A total of 77 (seventy-seven) first to fourth grade primary school students participated in the research, and the data was collected in a survey. Based on the results, the conclusion is that the hygiene habits of the examined students are very good, but in order to improve the health of the entire population, students also have to be educated further on the subject.
