Reading is a very complex activity that encompasses a whole range of processes, but the most important process for developing of reading skills is process of creating mental images. This process is based on the most important component of reading - the literary experience, which is also the starting point for discussing a literary work. Reading carries important functions for human development in every aspect. Although the benefits of reading can be endlessly enumerated, the crisis of reading is a phenomenon that is affecting all generations in the 21st century. There are many reasons why children and adults avoid books and reading, but there are even more reasons why it's important to start developing reading skills from a youngest age. It's beyond question that teaching literature plays a crucial role in stimulating children's reading and developing reading ability. Obligatory books in schools are often the only literary works that students read, so it is important to adapt approaches to book reports, as well as reading diaries, so they can enjoy that activity. A creative approach to book report is an alternative to template and reproductive forms for book reports and is based on adapting to students’ interest and fostering their active role during and after reading.
