Abstract
Children's play is not always and only about fun. It is a complex and content-based activity that represents an irreplaceable learning experience for a child. It is critical that dramatic play, a form of play, is included in teaching processes. This report focuses on what exactly drama education entails in practice and how it can be used in teaching the lower grade levels of elementary schools in the Republic of Croatia, according to the National Curriculum, with a particular focus on drama activities in the English language classroom. Theoretically, the report deals with the phenomenon of children's play, dramatic play in teaching, and its benefits when used as a teaching method. Additionally, drama play in the classroom often has therapeutic effects as well. This report also focuses on the goals and roles of the teacher in the context of drama education. At the end of the report there are examples of games and exercises that could be used in the English language classroom.
Abstract (croatian)
Dječja igra nema samo zabavnu dimenziju – riječ je o puno kompleksnijoj i sadržajnijoj aktivnosti koja djetetu, u prvom redu, omogućuje učenje, odnosno stjecanje novih znanja i vještina. Logično je, stoga, da dramski odgoj, kao jedan vid igre, bude uključen u nastavne procese. U ovom radu fokus je na prednostima dramskog odgoja, što točno dramski odgoj podrazumijeva u praksi te koliko je kao takav zastupljen u nastavi engleskoga jezika u nižim razredima osnovnih škola u Republici Hrvatskoj, prema Nastavnom planu i programu za osnovnu školu, s fokusom na dramske aktivnosti na nastavi engleskog jezika. U teorijskom dijelu, rad se bavi fenomenom dječje igre, dramskim igrama u nastavi, dobrobitima dramskog odgoja, odnosno razmatra se dramski odgoj kao nastavna metoda, te njegov terapijski učinak, ciljevi i uloga učitelja. Na kraju rada nalaze se primjeri dramskih vježbi i igara sa određenom svrhom koje se mogu upotrebljavati na nastavi engleskog jezika.
