Young people in adolescence are under extremely strong pressure to adapt, they create their identities through language. Many lexemes that are used by young people are mostly words and expressions from popular culturea that are spread through the media, movies and music. But also, you can always expect regional differences due to the specifics of individual areas and cities in relation to others, such is the situation in Slavonski Brod because the city itself has experienced great migrations during the First and Second World Wars, and especially during the Independence War and after, when the number of Croat refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina rapidly increases. Dialectology is the science that deals with the dividing of different speeches within a language, it is in inextricably link to the history of language, it is a part of genetic linguistics and thus directly connects dialectics and the natural movement of the population. The survey was conducted in July and June 2018. in Slavonki Brod in four high schools: Matija Antun Reljković High School, Technical School, Matija Mesić High School and Fr. Marijan Lanosović Classical High School, the research involved first, second and third grade students, 646 of them. We learn that a large number of young people use Bosnian expressions / accents because of the influence of their families, friends, the environment, the media, and some for fun. Such a way of speaking has become their daily routinespeech, they use it in their free time, while a large proportion of respondents speak standard language in schools, state and public institutions.
