Peers play a significant role in the child's social and cognitive development. In relation with peers, the child acquires new social knowledge, learns to communicate, develops interaction with others appropriately and express their aspirations and feelings. The most important relationship between peers is friendship. Vasta et al. (2005) described the definition of friendship as a lasting relationship between two people wich is characterised with loyalty, intimacy and mutual attraction. The objective of this paper was to determine the child's social status, find out the position of the child in the social network of the group and compare it to the type of game it chooses. Sociometry and etnographic record are used in this paper (which includes video records, notes, 5-minute „time-sampling“). The research was conducted in one group of children aged 4 to 5 years. From the results obtained, it is apparent that in the observed group, in the „popular“ child category, girls were more represented than boys. When it comes to the most common type of game, „popular“ and „average“ children u sually choose a cooperative game, while „neglected“, „rejected“ and „controversial“ children usually choose a parallel game. The game usually takes place in a group of three children. The obtained results can serve to educator as an incentive to create situations in which children will have the opportunity to train their social skills through interaction with their peers.
